Welcome to the Parish of Wisley with Pyrford
Our vision as churches in the Parish of Wisley with Pyrford is to see ourselves drawing closer to Christ and reaching further for Him. The church is not just a building contained within four walls, nor is it simply a group of people who come together once or twice a week to share services. Our aim is to be a church family that is faithful, dynamic, relevant and welcoming; drawing closer to Christ so that we can then reach further for him extending our reach into the wider community developing a strong network of disciples within the local area, through volunteering, school outreach or action days.
This vision has been led by a desire to see the church grow in fellowship with God and with each other. Through prayer, discipleship and worship we want to reach out to communities both at home and abroad, making new links with our neighbours in Pyrford and Wisley as well as our brothers and sisters overseas.
Prayer is an essential part of our future vision. While this may seem an obvious goal for a church to commit to, it may not be something which comes easily to even the most practiced Christian. Far too frequently our prayers may be more like a ‘shopping list’ of problems, brought to God in desperation for a quick solution. Our vision is to develop conversations with Him instead, learning to listen to Him instead of talking at him, and hearing His ideas for our development.
Through prayer, our desire is to grow in fellowship with God and one another, both those who are regular members of the congregation and those who have yet to discover what the church can offer them. Different ways of praying are being explored – through ‘half nights’ of committed prayer, quiet days offering leadership and direction, group prayer within one of our many Home Groups, or in prayer partners or triplets who pray closely for each other. Our ideas are growing and evolving, and we encourage you to take part in any way you feel comfortable with.
There are three church buildings making up the parish - two in Pyrford, the Church of the Good Shepherd and St Nicholas' Church, and Wisley Church in the neighbouring village of Wisley. A wide variety of worship and music is offered at the three churches, and new styles are being explored. Both St Nicholas' and Wisley offer more traditional services, as befit churches of their age and history.
