Giving & Legacy
In the Parish of Wisley with Pyrford part of our vision is to bring Christ to the community. We do this in many ways: giving the opportunity for worship to those attending our regular services: sharing the joy of a couple coming to be married or a family bringing a child for baptism; comforting the bereaved. To all these and many more we seek to be a channel of God’s love to those looking to our Church for help and encouragement.
Our impact is also felt well beyond the church buildings themselves. Through our outreach into the community we reach further for Christ. We seek to help everyone particularly the young and old where our involvement with Pyrford Primary School and various initiatives for the elderly demonstrate our commitment to the more vulnerable in society.
Like every household our Church needs to keep up with the cost of living. While we are as careful as possible with our funds, expenses like heating, insurance, our clergy and other day to day costs mount up. You may not realise that the cost of running the Parish, which includes meeting its responsibilities and our giving to charity, is about £1,000 a day.
This is funded largely (about 75%) by Voluntary Giving, the rest coming from fees for weddings, funerals and baptisms and income from room hire. Contrary to popular belief we receive no money from the Church of England nor indeed from any other external source. Legacy giving is also a very important source of income to us and details on this are included on the link below.
Voluntary Giving income totals £250,000 a year including Gift Aid. The bulk of this money comes from members of the congregation who typically give by monthly standing order. We have seen in recent years a reduction in such giving, as folk have moved away, retired, lost their job and indeed died. Accordingly we are seeking not only to raise £20,000 in 2016/2017 to improve our finances, but also to increase the number of regular givers from the present number of 225.
May we ask you please to consider giving regularly or to increase your existing giving after prayerfully considering the considerable gifts that God has given to each of us?
