The Vision for Sunday Lunch at Church:
The Community Engagement part of our Church Mission challenges us to extend our range of contacts within the Community and also to address God’s unconditional love for all people by addressing needs in our community.
The task of Sunday Lunches at Church is to share our love, through the Christian habit of providing hospitality, to those locally who may be in need of company, support etc; they may be of any faith or none. Whilst there is an alternative approach to open the doors to all in the parish, it is felt this would prevent the shy, retiring or those we are seeking to attract from coming in - at least in the first instance.
The people we are aiming at are likely to be based within our community of Wisley and Pyrford or nearby. Age is not an issue, and we hope to attract a wide range of ages. We will canvass support through other Church groups and ask everyone to promote this opportunity to those who might wish to participate.
The focus is providing the support and hospitality and we an average of 9 lunches a year.
We offer a free 2 course cooked meal, although we do put out a collection plate for those who are minded to help with the cost. The net cost of these lunches comes from the local Community Engagement fund.
Our inaugural lunch, in October 2013, attracted 30 people together with helpers. Since then we have run the programme most months and had up to 40-50 people including the helpers. The lunches are always really friendly and lively with many people returning the following month.
We hope you can join us at these Church lunches. Although you can turn up on the day, we would be pleased to get some idea of how many to cater for so please sign up on the church sheet which will be put up nearer the time or call one of those noted below.
The next lunch is planned for: 24th September.
Other provisional dates for 2017 are:
- 22nd October, 26th November.
How you can help - if not coming to the lunch:
- We expect to need some help with lifts for those wishing to come.
- We are also looking for volunteers to help us serve, cater and clear up!
If you can help us, please contact Robert Hewitt or Philippa Hewitt or angela Cartledge.
