Care for the Elderly
‘Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength is spent.’ Psalm 70:9
Our parish is made up of people from all walks of life, from the vibrant youth groups who enjoy activities and fellowship together, to the parents and grandparents who have seen their families grow up and move on.
To fulfil our vision of being a caring church, we aim to follow in the footsteps of the Good Shepherd, who made sure that no person or group was left alone or without support. The whole flock is tended to.
All too often, as life expectancies increase with medical advances, loneliness or isolation can engulf the elderly. Working against this are our teams of regular visitors who help and support those in the parish who are no longer to get out by themselves – but there are many others in the community who are not yet known to us. In August we run an event called ‘Holiday at Home' which offers an opportunity to meet social with others and enjoy lunch as well as a variety of activities and entertainment. Plans to expand our support network include offering help with every day issues such as transport and correspondence, and continuing regular home visits.
Engaging with the elderly at home is not a one-way process – this group has so much to offer, with their stories and their wisdom, and this resource is one we hope to tap into.

The elderly at home are just one group of many in the community – others include working parents, students, care home residents and single parent families. We hope to encourage as many people as possible to use their talents to choose a group to work with and to reap the benefits.
The vision for this parish is, we faithfully believe, one which has God’s backing – and we are his hands, his feet and his voice in this community.
