Engaging Community Network
We believe that the church exists to serve its community by reflecting God’s astonishing love for all people in acts of service. We recognise that a sense of community doesn’t just happen as a result of geographical proximity, but requires people to take the initiative in building relationships, caring for one another in practical ways and organising events that will bring people together.
The church in Pyrford has a long history of being socially active and caring for those who find themselves challenged by some of the trials life can bring. The first school in Pyrford was established by the Rector and members of the parish in the Old School Room next to St. Nicholas Church. That tradition continues to this day with strong links between the parish and Pyrford Church of England Primary School. In addition members of the church have been closely involved as trustees of the Pyrford Charities and the Pyrford Common Trust (now absorbed into the Horsell Common Preservation Society), and have also played leading roles in the running of the Flower Show.
We are particularly concerned to ensure that the care and service that we provide extends across all age-groups and have developed a network of sub-groups to ensure that all people of whatever age come within someone’s area of focus.
In addition we support up to three charities locally and overseas at any one time so that our love and service can extend beyond the parish boundaries to areas of particular need. If you wish to know more about the charities we support please click here.
Specific activities that we organise include:
|Friday Coffee Shop||Trailblazers Inc and Youth Club|
|Community Action Days||Next Step - bereavement support|
|Womens' Forum||The Shepherd’s Market – fundraising for our charities|
|Gateway – debt and employment counselling service||Helping Others|
It is our hope that through these activities people will experience God’s love for them and that the love of God through Jesus will become more widely known.
